The Limits of Relationships

The Limits of Relationships

Good Morning,

I used to be a victim of not know my limits.  I've spent years building relationships with people. I've always been the guy that wants to get along with everyone. Honestly, building relationships are easy. It's keeping them that's hard. There are so many personalities out there it's hard to please them all. I'm the guy that goes through 100+ contacts in his phone and sends text messages to people just to check on them. I don't usually expect them to do the same because they are not me. But relationships are tough to keep. They also have unspoken limits.

- I've turned down money to keep relationships strong

- I've struggled financially because I was afraid I'd ruin the relationships I had if I ask them for help.

- I've stroked a lot of egos to keep relationships

I'm a firm believer that relationships are the most important thing you can get from people. Without genuine relationships I believe a person could go crazy. As mentioned earlier, I think genuine relationships have limits. Yes LIMITS. You have to know how far you can go with certain friends to maintain their friendship. If you're a relationships person like me, make sure you know which friends you can talk to about specific topics and who you can ask for help. Be careful not to fall for the cliche sayings, "Let me know if you need anything" or "I'll help you when I can." These sayings may come from a good heart and good intentions, but are usually not followed through on. I have to admit that I was once a victim of this. Now I'm careful with throwing that around. If you are not aware you may ruin your relationships limits or even worse the overall relationship.
